WEBCAST PRESENTATION
Jazz at Lincoln Center Concert:  "Abyssinian Mass"
7PM
Host:  Roger Braun, Professor of Percussion, Ohio University School of Music
FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Athens Public Library
30 Home St., Athens, OH

In 2008, nine-time GRAMMY® Award winner Wynton Marsalis was commissioned to write a piece commemorating the 200th anniversary of Harlem’s Abyssinian Baptist Church. The result was a sacred celebration: a sweeping composition for a big band and 70-piece gospel choir. The Abyssinian Mass documents this piece’s immense power to make audiences clap their hands and sing along to its joyous spirituality, its profound swing, and its bluesy swagger.

Inspired by the legendary music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, guitarists Jeff Carr and Art Werger, along with violinist Mark Burhans and bassist Michael Sisson, formed the Coolville Hotclub in 2006.  The band hosts a bi-weekly jam session at Casa Cantina.  The all acoustic jam takes place in a relaxed pub atmosphere and is open to all jazz players.  Acoustic music with some great players regularly sitting in - all at one of Athens' favorite hot spots.
