Athens and the surrounding areas are home to a great number of incredible musicians - many of whom will appear on this join concert featuring these two vibrant ensembles. This concert is sponsored by Athens City Arts, Parks, and Recreation - we have enjoyed a great partnership with ARTS/West for many years and thank the city for its support!
The Athens Dixieland Stompers play jazz music from its earliest days, featuring music of Jelly Roll Morton, the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Louis Armstrong's Hot Five, King Oliver, W.C. Handy, and many more.
Members include Ben Wright (tpt), Matt James (saxophone), Lucas Rego Borges (bone), Roger Braun (drums), Michael Tobar (keys), and Jason Smith (sousaphone/tuba).
The three-year old Athens Community Jazz Ensemble is an all-volunteer community big band dedicated to sharing America's music with the SE Ohio region and beyond. Members are band directors, retired musicians, amateurs, and a sprinkle of OU faculty and students. Bring the entire family to check out their swinging set!
